From April 2010 to April 2015, the U.S. Dollar/New Zealand Dollar exchange rate has varied between a high of 1.4828 and a low of 1.1377. The average USD/NZD exchange rate during that five-year period is 1.2569.
As of April 24, 2015, the USD/NZD exchange rate is 1.32. In 2000, USD/NZD exchange rates reached a record high of over 2.5. After 2002, the exchange rate began to decline, reflecting a stronger economy in New Zealand. In 2008, the exchange rate rose again to nearly 2.5 levels, due to a deteriorating global economy that led many to invest in safe-haven currencies such as the U.S. dollar. Overall, however, the New Zealand dollar has fared better than most, and the 2008 rise was short-lived.
