When was Humana Medicare founded?

Humana Inc. was founded in 1961, but the company did not begin offering its Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans until 2006. The company's name is Humana Inc., and Medicare supplement, advantage and prescription drug plans are just a few of its products.

Originally a nursing home company known as Extendicare, Humana took its current name in 1974, two years after its founders sold the company's nursing homes to begin purchasing hospitals.

In 1993, the company expanded its operation to offer health insurance, and the following year, it sold all of its hospitals. In 2006, the company began offering its Medicare supplement plans and started a mail-order retail pharmacy business.
