Where do jackals live?

Jackals live in open savannas, deserts, grasslands and bushlands. Most jackals are found in Africa and Asia. There are four species of jackals: the golden jackal, the side-striped jackal, the black-backed jackal and the Ethiopian wolf jackal.

Jackals are typically found in packs of 10 to 30. Packs work together to hunt for food and protect one another. They are carnivorous animals that hunt small mammals, birds and reptiles. Jackals, particularly those in the Asian region, eat plant material if meat is unavailable. They make their homes, or dens, in crevices of rocks that keep them cool during hot weather.
