George Washington passed the first naturalization law of the United States, the first copyright law and a law that established the U.S. capital in the District of Columbia, along the Potomac River. Washington passed all these laws in 1790.
During the presidency of George Washington between 1789 and 1797, Congress approved several other laws, such as the first internal revenue law and the "Whiskey Act" in 1791. Washington signed several foreign policy treaties as well, including Jay's Treaty in 1794, which established solutions to the commercial and military issues between the United States and Britain. Washington also signed the Treaty of Paris in 1783 and the Treaty of San Lorenzo in 1795.
