A schnauzer has a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years. It does not suffer from any major health problems, but it may develop canine hip dysplasia and follicular dermatitis.
Schnauzers have bristly whiskers, eyebrows and moustaches, and they have heavy-set and sturdy bodies. Schnauzers are pure black or salt-and-pepper in color, and their coat is wiry, thick and hard. The coat should be combed twice a week and trimmed four times a year. Schnauzers originate from Germany. The three types of schnauzer are the miniature, standard and giant schnauzer. Schnauzers are protective dogs, and they require daily physical exercise.
