The life expectancy for someone with common variable immune deficiency is based on how often and how severely an individual becomes ill, according to Genetics Home Reference. Individuals with the disorder are typically adults when they die.
In a 40-year study of more than 400 common variable immune deficiency patients, the male median age at death was 42 years, and the female median age at death was 44 years, according to the journal Blood. Life expectancy rates have increased due to doctors using more effective antibiotics and treatment protocols. The study showed lung disease is the major cause of death, and lymphoma is the second most significant cause of mortality.
