The rose hair tarantula or grammostola rosea is one of the hardiest, stockiest and most common tarantula in America's pet stores, and the female arachnid's lifespan is approximately 20 years. Males have a much shorter lifespan. These tarantulas have not been studied for very long, so it is possible that they may have a lifespan that considerably exceeds 20 years.
The rose hair tarantula originates in Chile and is a cheap, docile and popular pet. The tarantulas are easily maintained, can fast for months and can be bred in captivity. After mating, the female detects an egg sac, and shortly afterward, the male dies.
