What is a lilac border collie?

A lilac border collie has white forelegs, chest and snout, while the rest of this dog is a diluted chocolate shade. Although most people associate border collies with black and white coloring, the dogs actually come in a number of different colors.

Border collies can have coats comprised of black, white, blue, slate, chocolate, lilac, red and sable, determined by their different genetic make up. These colors come in different combinations including bicolor, tricolor and merle. Merle is a type of genetic modification that causes the colors present in a particular dog to look patchy and mottled throughout the body.
