Where is the liver located?

The liver is located in the upper right quadrant of the abdomen. It is found directly below the diaphragm and consists of four large lobes.
The liver is a large glandular organ that secretes chemicals that are transported throughout the body. The main chemical that the liver secretes is bile. This substance is necessary for fat digestion because bile salts break up fatty compounds into smaller compounds to make them more readily absorbed into the body. In addition to producing bile, the liver also detoxifies the blood, stores a few different vitamins and minerals, stores glucose and recycles old red blood cells.
