Calves weigh approximately 60 pounds at birth and weigh as much as 1,000 pounds at maturity. In order for cows to produce milk, they must first give birth. Male cows are referred to as bulls. Cows have 32 teeth and chew up to 50 times per minute. They typically consume up to 40 pounds of food per day and spend approximately eight hours a day chewing and eating cud. Cows also can detect scents up to eight miles away and have excellent vision.
