What does lychee taste like?

Lychee, also known as litchi, is a strawberry shaped fruit that tastes similar to grapes, strawberries and watermelon combined. Ripe lychees are sweet and flavorful.

Lychee fruit originated in Asia. They are often referred to as alligator strawberries because of their similar shape and color, and rough, scaly outer skin. Lychee fruit thrives in tropical climates. They continue to ripen until they are picked. The outer skin and membrane must be peeled in order to enjoy the edible fruit inside. The edible portion resembles a grape. Lychees have a large seed in the middle, which is removed before eating. Lychees are sold fresh or canned.
