The Pacific Ocean is the world's largest ocean at 63.8 million square miles. It is larger than all of the world's land areas and comprises roughly 30 percent of the Earth's surface. The equator divides the ocean into the South Pacific and North Pacific. The Pacific is the world's deepest ocean, reaching a depth of over 6.5 miles near the Philippines, and it is also the oldest ocean, being the remains of the ocean that surrounded Pangaea.
