How many people died in the Salem witch trials?

Twenty people were formally executed as a result of the Salem witch trials, but as many as 13 more may have died while awaiting trial or execution. Fourteen of the 19 convicted were women. Five of them were men.

Of the twenty that were executed, nineteen were actually convicted of the crime of witchcraft. The twentieth was executed because he refused to enter a plea. Several of the women were widows, and many of those who were executed had been respected church members prior to the accusations against them. Most of the accusations are now thought to have been nothing more than the result of vendettas over previous disagreements.
