How many people live in Africa today?

As of 2014, 1.033 billion people are living in Africa, according to World Population Review. It is the second-largest and second most populous continent after Asia. The most populous country in Africa is Nigeria with an estimated 173,611,131 people.

As of 2014, the most populous of Africa's countries after Nigeria are Ethiopia, Egypt, Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa, in that order. Although infant mortality rates are high and the life expectancy is less than 50 years of age due to the HIV and AIDS epidemic, the population of Africa is expected to grow exponentially, with an estimate of 1.9 billion people living in Africa by 2050.
