According to Beaver Solutions, beavers have 20 teeth total in their jaws. They consist of two incisors in the top jaw, two in the bottom jaw and 16 back teeth distributed evenly between the top and bottom jaws.
The beaver's pairs of incisors are colored bright orange. Beavers are born with incisors already in place, and the teeth grow continuously throughout the animal's life. They are worn down to a healthy level by gnawing, and they are self sharpening. They are separated from the rest of the teeth by skin flaps which seal off a large gap between the incisors and the rest of the mouth. These protective measures prevent the beaver from accidentally damaging its mouth or throat with splinters.
