Is zero even or odd?

In mathematics, zero is an even number. To be even, a number must be divisible by two with no remainder. Zero fits this description because zero divided by two equals zero.

There is an easy rule of thumb to help determine whether a number is even. Even numbers end with a digit of zero, two, four, six or eight. Conversely, an odd number cannot be divided evenly by two. Odd numbers end with a digit of one, three, five, seven or nine. This makes it simple to determine whether a number is even or odd regardless of the number's size.
