Miniature Japanese maple trees are small, compact trees that produce pink, yellow, red or gold leaves and can grow up to 4 feet in height. The trees are also referred to as Japanese dwarf maple trees and are a common addition to rock gardens.
Japanese dwarf maples can reach 10 feet in width and thrive in partially shaded areas with moderate moisture. The leaves of the miniature Japanese maple tend to change throughout the seasons and settle into a glowing gold color by fall. The trees are similar in appearance to shrubs and usually grow around 2 inches per year. Miniature Japanese maples are popular among bonsai and container gardeners, as they are easy to propagate.
