The minimum age to get a driver's license is dependent on state law, but is most often between 14 to 17 years old. Most states also have other requirements, such as driver's education and driving experience, in order for a citizen to obtain a license.
The lowest minimum age to obtain a driver's license in the United States is in South Dakota, at 14 years old. Most states put a time restriction on when a minor can drive and limit the amount of passengers a young driver can have in the vehicle. States with tougher laws and restrictions on teen drivers see the least accidents and road fatalities with young drivers.
