MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. It is a communication technology designed to enable users to send short text messages, sound files, video clips and graphics over a wireless network using the WAP protocol.

Only compatible mobile devices that run over a 3G or GPRS network can receive or send multimedia messages. The maximum message size is typically limited to 600 kilobytes. However, network carriers tend to impose their own size restrictions. The ability to receive or send a combination of multimedia elements (image and text in one message) depends on the device being used. The most popular use for MMS is sending photographs from camera phones.
