How much do AFL players make?

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, under the AFL's new collective bargaining agreement, players earned $830 per game for the 2013 18-game season. This amounts to just under $15,000 per year. Most AFL players hold jobs outside of their football careers.
The AFL has had its ups and downs, declaring bankruptcy in 2009 and suffering a player strike prior to the 2012 season. Under the new collective bargaining agreement, six-figure salaries for players are a thing of the past, but the $830 per-game rate is an increase for the majority of athletes, over the league's previous pay rate of $400 per game.
