How much do CFL players earn?

The average Canadian Football League player makes around $80,000 a year. The minimum salary for a rookie is $50,000. The minimum salary is dictated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
A player's salary is paid on a per-game basis over the 18 regular season games. Players are also given a per diem when travelling, free and discounted tickets, playoff and Grey Cup compensation and pension contributions. The salary cap is set at $5 million per year, meaning the combined salaries of all players on a team must not exceed that figure. Many CFL players take up other jobs in the off-season to prepare for when they retire from football.
