How much alcohol can a diabetic drink daily?

Men who are diabetic should drink no more than two drinks per day, and diabetic women should drink no more than one drink per day, according to the National Diabetes Association. A moderate amount of alcohol is acceptable for diabetics, and may actually have some health benefits, such as reducing the risk of heart disease.

Although it is safe for diabetics to consume moderate amounts of alcohol, they should approach drinking cautiously. Drinking alcohol should not be done on an empty stomach. Alcohol should also be avoided when blood glucose is low, and the alcoholic beverage should be consumed along with some food.
