There are 200 milligrams of caffeine in a 2-ounce bottle of regular 5-hour Energy. The extra-strength bottle contains 230 milligrams of caffeine. A decaffeinated version of 5-hour Energy is available with only 5 milligrams of caffeine.
For comparison, a 16-ounce cup of takeout coffee has about 145 milligrams of caffeine. In addition to caffeine, 5-hour Energy contains vitamins, citicoline and tyrosine to improve nerve function, amino acids, taurine, malic acid and several other additives. The bottles contain a warning about the amino acid phenylalanine, which is harmful for those with phenylketonuria, a hereditary condition, and niacin, which causes flushing in some people.
