The world's heaviest pumpkin weighed in at 2,009 pounds. The grower, Ron Wallace of Rhode Island, won first prize at the Topsfield Fair in Topsfield, Mass., on Sept. 28, 2012, with his Atlantic Giant pumpkin.
Some other impressively heavy plants include a 17-pound onion grown in Newark, England, in 2011, a 268-pound watermelon grown in Hope, Ark., in 2005, a 127-pound cabbage grown in Wasilla, Alaska, in 2009, a 24-pound sweet potato grown in Lebanon, a 41-pound cantaloupe grown in Hope, Ark., in 2011 and a 610-square-foot tomato plant in Orlando, Fla., that yielded a total of 32,000 tomatoes in 2006.
