As of 2015, the gasoline tax in Utah is 24.5 cents per gallon and is applied for any gasoline type, including diesel. An additional 0.5 cents of tax is also included with every gallon to cover for associated inspection and miscellaneous fees.
In 2015, the Utah State Senate held a debate regarding an increase in the state's gasoline tax. A proposal made by Senator Kevin Van Tassel proposed an increase to the gasoline tax by 10 cents per gallon. The proposal, if adopted, is written so as to impose an additional 5 cent levy to the state's existing diesel tax.
