What do Muslim men wear on their heads?

The Quran does not require Muslim men to cover their heads, but many choose to wear prayer caps known as taqiyahs. These caps are short and round. They occasionally fit tightly against the skull.

In the Western world, these caps are known as kufis. In Pakistan, they are referred to as topis. According to Muslim tradition, Muhammad’s companions were never seen with their heads uncovered. Muslim men often wear a flowing headdress known as the keffiyah along with the taqiyah. When worn in this manner, the taqiyah is always worn underneath the keffiyah, and it must be white. The keffiyah is also worn by non-Muslims.
