Do you need good credit to buy a visa card?

As of 2015, good credit is not required to purchase a prepaid Visa debit card, but a credit check is required to apply for a Visa credit card. The debit card is a substitute for cash, and a credit card is more like a loan.

A prepaid debit card can be purchased without a credit check and is good for the amount loaded on the card. It can be used almost anywhere online and locally that accepts Visa debit cards. Funds can be added to the debit card either online or through a local retailer.

A Visa credit card cannot be purchased and is only available after filling out an application and having a credit check run to see if the applicant qualifies for credit.
