What are normal IgE levels for children?

Normal immunoglobulin E, or IgE, levels in children are 10 international units per milliliter for 1-year-olds. These levels increase to 100 international units per milliliter by the age range of 13 to 16, according to the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

As Lab Tests Online points out, testing for IgE levels is done to screen for allergies and to identify specific substances to which a person may be allergic. Increased IgE levels above normal indicate that the person being tested has some sort of allergies but does not on its own indicate what allergen is involved. Multiple allergens may be involved when high IgE levels are present.
