New Years is said to be the oldest holiday in the world, and it is the most universally celebrated. It has been observed for nearly 4,000 years.
The first documented celebrations of New Years occurred on March 23rd by the Babylonians over 4,000 years ago. They celebrated by having an 11-day festival welcoming the first day of spring.The ancient Greece celebrated New Years with the New Years baby over 2,400 ago. They used the New Years baby as a symbol of Dionysus, the god of wine. The Romans also observed the holiday but on the more traditional date of January 1st.
