Can dogs eat pears?

Pears are safe for dogs to eat with the exception of the core and seeds. The core of the pear can cause obstructions in the digestive tract. The seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide.

There are health benefits to feeding a pup small amounts of pear at a time. Pears are high in fiber, which aids digestion and promotes a healthy heart. In addition, pears are rich in vitamins C and K, copper and antioxidants. Be careful not to feed any canine too much pear at once. The high fiber and high natural sugar content can cause diarrhea and upset stomach.
