Camels, who are capable of storing water within their bodies, are most often found in desert environments. However, the specifics of their habitats depend upon the breed.
Geographically, camels are located in eastern Asia, central Asia, northeastern China, southwestern Mongolia, the Middle East and northern Africa. Bactrian camels, which have two humps, reside in rocky desert areas. During the winter, they live near the mountains and rivers so as to be near water and moisture. Dromedary camels, which each have one hump, thrive in dry, sandy desert environments. They eat vegetation and can survive up to 17 days without water.
