Where do Mason bees live?

Mason bees live in natural cavities, such as woodpecker holes and holes made from wood-boring insects. They are also known to live in wooden blocks with holes drilled in them. Mason bees cannot excavate their own nesting holes.

Mason bees are found throughout the United States. There have been over 140 different species of mason bees identified throughout North America. Mason bees are solitary. The females only sting when they feel threatened, and the males do not have stingers. The mason bee is typically a little smaller in size than the honeybee and is either metallic blue or bluish-black in color.
