Where do pandas live in the wild?

The world's remaining pandas exist mainly in China. It is estimated that there are slightly less than 2,000 pandas living in the wild, as of 2014. In 2015, the Chinese State Forestry Service issued a study claiming that the population of pandas has increased.

Keeping track of the panda population requires extensive tracking of data and of the pandas themselves. Teams of researchers must traverse rugged terrain on foot in search of the sign of the species. The giant panda is still considered a priority endangered species by the World Wildlife Fund. Private relief organizations support habitats and legislation that protect pandas.
