What is the pH level of sugar?

Generally speaking, sugar is a pH-neutral substance, meaning that its pH value is around 7. However, raw and unprocessed sugar is slightly basic in nature, while white sugar and brown sugar are both slightly acidic.

The pH is the measurement of acidity and alkalinity of any chemical, usually calculated by the decimal logarithm of the reciprocal of hydrogen ion activity in an aqueous solution of that chemical. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. On the pH scale, 7 is considered to be neutral and represents a substance that is neither acidic nor basic. The lower is the pH value of a substance, the more acidic it is; values higher than 7 are associated with substances that are basic in their nature.
