What port does PPTP use?

The Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol, or PPTP, uses TCP port 1723. PPTP is used for secure data transfer between a remote client and enterprise server through a virtual private network and has support for a large number of firewalls and routers as long as port 1723 is enabled for traffic flow.

PPTP clients have been bundled with all versions of Microsoft Windows beginning with Windows 95 OSR2, including Windows Mobile 2003 and higher. Mac OS X, iOS, Android and some Linux distributions also include clients for PPTP communication.

A number of different security vulnerabilities have been discovered in PPTP, notably in regards to the underlying authentication protocols used.
