When do puppies lose their teeth?

Puppies start losing baby teeth from the age of 12 to 16 weeks. At about four months, all baby teeth are gone, and permanent teeth have surfaced.
Puppies generally chew aggressively on toys, shoes or other items in their reach as they teethe. Chewing is a natural activity that puppies engage in to relieve pain. The gums often swell or bleed, and the animal may drool. Massaging the puppy's gums with a cool, damp cloth can help relieve discomfort. Owners can also offer their puppies chew toys designed for the teething process. Adult dogs possess 42 permanent teeth, while puppies have 28.
