Red ants eat nearly anything that they can find including plants and other insects. The ants are scavengers and take advantage of many food sources.
Red ants are known to feed on dead rodents, birds and even mammals. They will also eat larvae and injured animals. Red ants, also referred to as "fire ants," leave their colonies to search for food. As they leave the colony, the ants leave a chemical along the path in order to find their colony upon returning. When locating a large food source, the red ants will have other workers join them in order to bring more food back to the colony.
