What is the regulation height for a mailbox?

According to the United States Postal Service, a mailbox should be positioned between 41 and 45 inches above the ground level. A mailbox should also be placed between six and eight inches back from the street curb.
The house or apartment number should also be placed on the mailbox in plain visibility to make delivery of mail easy for the carrier. In the occasion that the mailbox is located on a different street from the house or apartment, the full street address can be put on the box to help avoid confusion.
If a mailbox is attached to a house, ensure that it can be easily reached from the sidewalk, steps or porch.
