How do you remove limescale from taps?

Apply lemon juice or vinegar to taps for limescale removal, mixing with baking soda and making a paste if the limescale is persistent. Paper towels, rags, lemon juice, white distilled vinegar, a plastic bag, a rubber band, a toothbrush and an all-purpose cleaner are needed. Depending on the amount of limescale, removal can take from 5 minutes to one hour.

1. Clean the tap

   Clean loose dirt and debris from the tap using a damp, soapy rag or all-purpose cleaner. Pay particular attention to areas where water drips. Rinse the fixture with water, and wipe it dry.

2. Wipe with lemon juice

   Apply lemon juice to the tap to dissolve the limescale. Clean the lemon juice off with water and a soft cloth.

3. Apply vinegar

   Inspect the tap for remaining limescale. Mix vinegar and baking soda to create a paste. Apply the paste to the limescale. Rinse and wipe the paste off after 30 minutes. If the limescale persists, pour 1/3 cup vinegar into a plastic bag, and use a rubber band to wrap it around the tap. Remove after two to three hours, and use a toothbrush to scrub the deposits away.

4. Clean the aerator

   Remove the aerator from the tap, and place it in a small bowl of vinegar for one hour to soften the limescale. Scrub the screen with a toothbrush, and rinse before replacing.
