Where does Route 66 start and end?

Route 66 is a highway that originates in Chicago, Ill., and terminates in Los Angeles, Calif. It is 2,448 miles long, crosses eight states and spans three time zones.

Route 66 was established on Nov. 11, 1926, as one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System. It was not paved from end to end until 1937. It is also known as "The Mother Road," "The Main Street of America" and "The Will Rogers Highway." It's been immortalized in song in the classic "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" and on screen in the 1960s television show "Route 66."
