What is the Sabbath day?

The Sabbath day is the day of rest in the Jewish religion. It commemorates the 7th day when God took a day of rest after the creation. Jewish people kept the Sabbath as a part of their covenant with God.

Jewish people honor the Sabbath on Saturday, while Christians honor the Sabbath on Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Many other religions feature a day of rest as part of their beliefs, including Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Islam and Wicca. In many parts of the United States, secular blue laws exist that help promote a day of rest within the community.
