What should you eat after a tonsillectomy?

Due to the throat and jaw pain common after a tonsillectomy, bland foods that require little chewing such as applesauce and broth are best, reports Mayo Clinic. Ice cream and pudding are also good choices, especially for children who are reluctant to eat after surgery.
Immediately following surgery, clear liquids such as apple juice and broth are best. Soft solid foods and milk follow soon after, once the clear liquids are tolerated. Try foods with a high liquid content first, such as cream soups. Avoid hard, crunchy and spicy foods because they aggravate the soreness and irritation caused by the surgery, according to WebMD.
