An individual who wears a pacemaker can use a microwave with no ill effects, according to the American Heart Association. Household microwaves are not one of the electronics that interfere with pacemakers.

The belief that microwaves have negative effects on pacemakers is a myth, indicates the American Heart Association. While some electronic devices, such as anti-theft systems, can interfere with pacemakers, most common household items do not. If a person feels that his pacemaker is experiencing interference, it is acceptable to either turn off the machine or move to a new location. A small experience with a negative device typically causes no long-term effects.
