In order to sign up for Army Knowledge Online, it is necessary to be an Army member that is either on active duty or a member of the Army Reserves, National Guard, Department of the Army Civilian, Army NAF Civilian, Future Soldier or ROTC. ROTC cadets must be MS III or MS IV to gain access to AKO, as stated by the Army Enterprise Service Desk.
Use the following steps when signing up for an AKO account:
- Accept terms and conditions and create an account
- Choose the desired security questions
Read the terms and conditions of the site before proceeding through registration. These terms are mandatory. Pick between a CAC account, which is done using a card reader, and a non-CAC account. Be aware that the latter limits access to the types of information a user can access. Enter the requested information, such as Social Security number and date of birth, and make sure all areas have been filled out properly and completely, as stated on DISA.mil.
Pick three security questions in order to protect the account and help with identification if the password is lost. The account is ready for use after this point.
