What is St. Benedict the patron saint of?

Saint Benedict is the patron saint of school children, Europe, kidney disease and poisoning. Saint Benedict's Saint Day is July 11.

Saint Benedict began his adult life as a hermit, trying to escape the horrors of war. He lived in a cave for 3 years and during that time, he came across a group of monks who chose him to be their leader. He built a monastery called Monte Cassino and it was in this monastery that he led the monks and others in a strict lifestyle of prayer and charity work. St. Benedict's teachings are still followed by the Catholic Church, as of 2015.
