What is St. Peter the patron saint of?

Saint Peter is considered the patron saint of popes, the papacy and fishermen. Born in Bethsaida, near the Sea of Galilee, Peter was a fisherman and the brother of Andrew, who was also a disciple of Jesus.

As a fisherman, he was known as Simon and was called to his discipleship by Jesus to become "a fisher of men" (Matthew 4:19). Peter was considered first among the apostles, according to Catholic Online, and is believed by many to be the first pope and the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church. Christian tradition holds that he was martyred in 64 A.D under Emperor Nero.
