What is Townsend, Tennessee?

Townsend, Tenn. is a small town located in Blount County in southeastern Tennessee. It sits at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The 2010 U.S. census reported Townsend had a population of 448.

Known as “The peaceful side of the Smokies,” Townsend has been the home of multiple Native American cultures over thousands of years. It has a wide variety of animal and plant life and offers visitors numerous outdoor activities, such as horseback riding and water tubing along the Little River. It also preserves Appalachian culture through museums and trails. In the spring, Townsend hosts annual festivals featuring arts and crafts.
