What type of coating should be used to restore a deck?

A good type of coating to use in deck restoration should be four to 10 times thicker than paint, according to The Family Handyman. The additional thickness of the coating makes it durable and effective in covering surface flaws, knots and cracks. Typically, the thicker the coating, the better.
Choosing a thicker coating also means less coverage per gallon. In addition to thickness, it is also important to consider the color of the coating. Picking a dark color means the deck will be too hot to walk on when it gets direct sunlight. It is advisable to clean the old coating in the spring and fall for lasting results.
