What type of volcano is Mount Hood?

Mount Hood is a stratovolcano, which typically have sharp peaks that are formed from coats of dried lava, volcanic ash and other volcanic elements. Mount Hood's formation specifically is the result of a subduction zone on the West Coast.

Mount Hood's rock age is estimated to be about 500,000 years old, and the volcano last erupted in 1866. Mount Hood is situated in the northern part of Oregon, about 50 miles from Portland, and it is part of the Cascade Range. Mount Hood reaches a maximum elevation of approximately 11,300 feet, making it the tallest mountain in Oregon and the fourth tallest in the Cascades.
