The nail technician mixes the acrylic powder with a liquid hardener and applies it to the nail bed. After about two minutes the substance hardens, and the attendant applies polish or other embellishments. Acrylic nails are strong and long lasting, and they grow out with the natural nail. They can be filled in at regular intervals, but when they become thick or yellowed, it is time to have them removed. They are removed by soaking the nail in an acetone polish remover.
